About the Role
As part of learning and skills development, the day-to-day roles of the intern will involve supporting the accurate and compliant processing of financial transactions across AERC’s programmes. This is a hands-on role offering direct exposure to grant finance, donor compliance, and organizational financial operations at a pan-African level.

Duration: 3 to 6 months Location: AERC Headquarters, Nairobi (on-site or remote depending on departmental needs)
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in verifying and certifying the accounting and financial reports from grantees in accordance with grant terms and conditions
- Assist in maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of all grants awarded, disbursed, and payable by the Programmes
- Ensure compliance with donor requirements on the use of donor funds
- Assist in workshop disbursements to service providers, per diem payments, refunds, hotel bill payments, and accounting for the same
- Assist in processing travel advances taken by staff, verification of the accounting process, and ensuring accuracy of supporting documents
- Undertake any other duties as may be directed
Qualifications & Requirements
Interns must have attained at least a Master’s degree in their area of expertise from a recognized university. For this Finance role specifically:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field is required
- An MBA or equivalent postgraduate qualification is an added advantage
- Ability to work with computerized accounting systems
- Strong financial management, problem-solving, and analytical skills
General Eligibility:
- Aged 30 and below at point of submitting application
- Must be an African who has legal documents allowing him/her to work in Kenya physically or remotely from any African country
- Ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken English — proficiency in French is an added advantage
