Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is a State Corporation established through the Science and Technology (Amendment) Act of 1979, which has since been amended to Science, Technology and Innovation Act 2013. The 1979 Act established KEMRI as a National body responsible for carrying out health research in Kenya.
Research Administrator (Regulatory) – Mtwapa
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain studies’ compliance with applicable guidelines and regulations as well as all relevant local laws at all times,
- Keep track of all study protocols at the various IRBs and the regulatory body with an aim of ensuring strict adherence to submission/reporting timelines,
- Maintain documents as required by regulatory agency guidelines,
- Organize, coordinate, and document all training undertaken in respect to the study and to file all the relevant training records,
- Conduct periodic internal monitoring and audits of studies to ensure compliance with the protocol, SOPs, GCP and all the applicable regulations,
- Tracking, documenting, and reporting adverse events,
- Writing and reviewing of Standard Operating Procedures,

Registered Nurse – Mtwapa – 2 Posts
Key Responsibilities:
- Assessing study participants and establishing health care needs,
- Planning and implementing research related procedures as per specific study protocols,
- Providing health education and counselling on identified health and socio-economic needs to patients/clients;
- Completing data capture as per specific study protocol;
- Referring patients and clients appropriately;
- Ensuring safe custody of the nursing equipment and nursing records

Vacancy Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree/Diploma in any of the following disciplines: Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing, Nursing, Kenya Registered Midwifery, Nursing/Midwifery, Nursing/Mental Health and Psychiatry or any other equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.

Assistant Principal Clinical Scientist
Key Responsibilities:
- Identifying research gaps in line with the Institute’s research priority areas;
- Development of research proposals in the relevant research thematic area;
- Implementing pre-clinical and clinical research projects and/or supervise designated aspects of the work;
- Conducting medical examinations and writing medical reports;
- General diagnosis, care, treatment and provision of specialized clinical care for study participants;
- Conducting community diagnosis, care and treatment during Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities;
- Establishing strategic partnerships for research, training, innovations, technology;
- Sourcing for grants to fund the approved research protocols;
- Supervising junior professional and technical staff attached to his/her pre-clinical and clinical research program,
- Monitoring and evaluating implementation of research projects;
- Writing manuscripts, reports and translating research findings into lay language;
- Disseminating and translating research findings for evidence based policy formulations and implementation;

Vacancy Requirements:
- At least four (4) years relevant work experience;
- Bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields; – Medicine and surgery, Dentistry, Pharmacy or equivalent qualifications from a recognized Institution;
- Master’s Degree in any of the following disciplines: – Clinical Medicine/ Surgery/ Dentistry, Pharmacy, Biomedical Sciences, Analytical Chemistry, Applied Sciences, Public Health, any relevant Social Science, or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution;
- Developed at least twelve (12) proposals, six (6) of which have been funded;
- Published at least six (6) articles in refereed journals with at least three (3) articles as the first or lead author;
- Management Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;
- At least 7-10 years of public health experience in the management of diseases relevant to child health is required, including 3 years’ experience of working with ministries of health in developing countries.
- At least 3 years’ experience conducting public health research as a principal or a co-investigator.

Administrative Assistant – Kisumu
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in preparation of budget on project supplies, workshops and conferences, study participants’ reimbursements and request on transport.
- Document project vehicle mileage, track and update reports on vehicle maintenance
- Work with the field team leads to request and make follow-up on procurement of goods and services through ERP and eRequestor. S/he must ascertain goods and services are delivered on time, with stated specification, standard and verify invoices against goods delivered.
- Assist in verification of invoices and bills from the field office before payments are made.
- Ensure frequent update of stock database to show both stock-in and out.
- Coordinate all project supplies and field activities.
- Ensure day-to-day smooth operations of administrative functions of the department.
- Undertake other duties as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.
