The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) is an independent national institution established by the Media Council Act, 2013 for purposes of setting media standards and ensuring compliance with those standards, safeguarding media freedom, and enhancing media development as envisaged under Article 34(5) of the Constitution.
Industrial Placement
The Media Council of Kenya in partnership with recognised media houses runs media industrial placement programme that is geared towards providing journalism/media students with practical work experience before graduation and to prepare them for the job market.
Duration of the Internship
The attachment lasts for a period of Three (3) Months January-March 2024. The Council will provide a monthly stipend for the trainees’ upkeep.
Requirements
1. Final year students from a recognised university or college.
2. Recommendation letter from the university or college stating the period when the placement is required.
3. Academic transcripts for the current academic year.
4. Valid Student Identification Card.
5. Valid MCK Student Press Card 2023.
6. Sample of journalistic work done before.
Placement
Beneficiaries will be placed in recognized media outlets across the country under the following areas of specialisation; Print, Radio, Television, Digital and Corporate Communications.
Eligibility
Students pursuing degree or diploma in Journalism, Media Studies, Communications, Digital and corporate communication, or Public Relations who meet the above requirements are eligible to apply.
