Job Description

Our Client, a construction & water well drilling company located in Mogadishu, Somalia is seeking to fill the position of Senior Accountant. The main purpose of this job is to effectively manage the Accounts Receivable function, National staff Payroll function, and Payables function (as and when required) in compliance with the company policies and procedures, internationally accepted financial reporting and accounting standards, Client requirements, and government rules and regulations in close collaboration with the Director of Finance and the Finance Manager.

Job Responsibilities

  • Verify Completed and Partially Completed Projects and Task Orders; Construction and Non-Construction Projects; and request for verified supporting documents from Project/Task Orders Implementation Leads to facilitate Customer invoicing.
  • Prepare and submit to the Management Team the summarized Weekly Reports for Completed Projects and Task Orders that are either high value or are nearing completion after reviewing of Weekly reports from the Engineering Department.
  • Daily follow-up of supporting documents for Completed Projects or Partially Completed Projects and Task Orders for Customer billing purposes.
  • Monitoring on a Monthly basis Projects that are billable at the end of the Month and ensuring the supporting documents are provided on a timely basis.
  • Monitor continuously and update on a weekly basis New Projects including Purchase Orders received.

  • Prepare and submit to Clients invoices and supporting documents where applicable on a timely basis for Completed and Partially Completed Projects and Task Orders.
  • Coordinate the creation of Customer invoices on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis; then review and post/validate in the ERP. In addition, ensure revenue allocation is accurately posted by Projects and Task orders where applicable.
  • Monitor Advance Payments including Advance Payment Guarantees and Retentions for All Projects. Coordinate with Project Managers to ensure supporting documents are received to ensure that retentions payable on project completion and/or on the lapse of the defect liability period are released on a timely basis.
  • Reconcile and submit the Accounts Receivables on a Weekly, Monthly, and Yearly basis.
  • Review Monthly, Quarterly, and Annual Income Projections and undertake variance analysis between actual and projected revenues for All Projects.
  • Payroll preparation at the end of each Month and ensure payroll costs are allocated by Project. Coordinate with the HR Department on submission of the payroll information on a timely basis; then review and ensure it is accurate and complete.
  • Processing of payments as and when required. Review, approve and validate requests for payments of expenses, vendor bills, and sub-contractors.
  • Manage Accountants, Accounts Assistants, and bookkeepers (Cash books).
  • Supporting the Finance department in developing ad-hoc reports and analyses as may be requested by the Management.
  • Undertaking other reasonable duties commensurate with this post, as and when required

Other Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Commerce, Finance, or a related field.
  • Recognized Certificate of Professional qualification in Accounting (ACCA, CPA).
  • Membership in a Professional Organization will be an added advantage.
  • At least 6 years of working experience in a busy office environment preferably in a post-conflict zone.
  • Understanding of organizational objectives and how they relate to financial management.
  • Proven experience in Construction Projects will be an added advantage, preferable dealing with United Nations, Africa Union, government, and donor-funded projects
  • Demonstrate ability to provide analytical inputs for the development of budgets, financial plans, or analysis.
  • Demonstrate ability to prepare in-depth analytical reports and present well-formulated recommendations to the management.
