POSITION OVERVIEW
The Program Officer, reporting to the Director of Program Strategy, will play a central role in evaluating global trends in women’s rights, feminist movements, and the pursuit of gender equality, particularly in African contexts. The individual will contribute to grantmaking strategies and processes while fostering partnerships, providing direct support to grantee organizations, and representing Equality Fund at various forums. This role demands expertise in feminist frameworks, grant management, and program design, alongside strong skills in results-based program evaluation.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Grantmaking and Partnerships
•Maintain a deep understanding of regional and thematic developments, particularly around African feminist movements, youth advocacy, disability inclusion, and climate activism.
•Design and implement effective grant programs, collaborating with internal teams and external partners to support women’s rights groups and feminist networks.
•Serve as the main contact for grant recipients, ensuring mutual trust and providing capacity-building opportunities.
•Manage grant portfolios, including proposal review, report evaluation, and coordination with finance and grant operations teams.
•Amplify the voices of grantees in discussions around feminist funding, gender equity, and movement-building initiatives.
•Represent Equality Fund at external events and within stakeholder groups.
Monitoring and Evaluation
•Work collaboratively with the Learning and Impact team to develop systems for feminist monitoring and learning.
•Document program outcomes, lessons learned, and success stories to share with stakeholders and funding partners.
Cross-Organizational Engagement
•Collaborate with other teams to develop content for events, media campaigns, and outreach initiatives.
•Participate in the onboarding process for new staff members.
•Ensure alignment with Equality Fund’s policies on safe, respectful, and harassment-free work environments.
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS
•Minimum of 5 years in grant program management or related international development experience.
•Comprehensive knowledge of feminist and women’s rights issues, particularly in Africa.
•Familiarity with intersectional approaches and the ability to navigate complex power dynamics.
•Strong relationship-building and communication skills, including fluency in English and French.
•Experience with monitoring and evaluation methodologies, both qualitative and quantitative, is an advantage.
•Proficiency with tools such as Microsoft Office, GSuite, and databases (e.g., Salesforce is a bonus).
