Position: Gardener with handy work skills for the Belgian Embassy compound (local staff)

Job Description:
Under the supervision of the Ambassador and/or Consul, you will work in a team with other gardening /technical staff to maintain the garden and the overall compound of the Embassy of Belgium.
Main tasks:
– Mowing lawn with petrol lawn mower, collecting mulch
– Maintaining lawn, flower beds, potted plants, vegetable garden
– Pruning hedges and shrubs
– Raking leaves
– Composting
– Cleaning outside structures and installations such as the generator and pump houses, fountain,
walls, roofs and solar installation on the roofs, terrace and steps, askari shelters, lights
– Cleaning garden furniture
– Separating waste (plastics, paper, metal…) for recycling
– Maintaining equipment and tools
– Reporting any failing equipment or installations, breakages etc.
– Small repairs (plumbing, carpentry, electrical, machinery etc.)
– Supporting other staff during functions and receptions
Required Competences / Qualities
• Good command of English (written and oral skills).
• Great flexibility to take on different tasks, within different teams and independently with limited
supervision
• Sociable and a sense for initiative
• Ability to work under pressure
• To be social, dynamic and discrete
• The candidate should have no criminal record
• High standards of integrity
• The candidate must be loyal and reliable, with respect for data protection
Optional Competences
• Handy work experience with small repairs and installation (electrical, plumbing, carpentry…) is a plus
Practical Details:
• Consolidated gross monthly salary: 59.110,16 KES
• No extra allowances for housing costs or transportation
• 1 year contract (renewable) – 1 month probation period
