Shamiri Institute is seeking energetic and self-motivated team players to join us as Shamiri Pre-Texts Facilitators working in Nairobi/Kiambu County.

Shamiri Pre-Texts Facilitators are recent high-school graduates trained to deliver Pre-Texts, an innovative art-literacy intervention without prior formal training. This unique approach uses text – an extract from a novel, a physics lesson, or a technical manual – as a source of inspiration for making art. This is followed by group reflection on the process of interpretation through art-making. We are seeking self-motivated individuals to join this class of Pre-Texts Facilitators.

About Shamiri Institute

We are a youth-led organization shaping the future of mental health by making it affordable for all, personalized to an individual’s needs and circumstances, and integrated within existing caregiving systems and community life. This will help to build a future where young people can thrive across the African continent. Based in Nairobi, Kenya, Shamiri was founded in 2018 at Harvard University by award-winning Kenyan entrepreneur and community – mobilizer Tom Osborn and rising global mental health researcher Katherine Venturo-Conerly. Since our founding in 2018, we have worked with over 40,000 youths in secondary schools across Kenya. Through our work, young people have experienced a 40% improvement in mental health and wellbeing, a 14% improvement in social relations, and a 3% improvement in academic grades. Watch this TED talk for more information about our work.
