Job Summary:
The job holder works under the supervision of a lead teacher, providing additional assistance and instruction to students.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist lead teachers in preparing lesson plans and in teaching various subjects when required.
- Assist teachers with lesson preparation by getting materials ready and setting up equipment.
- Mark and correct the work of students as per lead teacher’s guidelines.
- Reinforce and clarify instructions to students while the lead teacher is teaching.
- Pick and drop children to ensure their safety to and from school.
- Monitor student behavior and help maintain discipline in the classroom.
- Oversee students during non-classroom times including breaks and in between classes for safety and discipline purposes.
- Monitor student attitudes and encourage self-esteem.
- Assist students with becoming increasingly independent.
- Maintain standardized records and documentation concerning the progress of students.
- Feed students, when necessary; toilet train students, if needed; and assist with any other tasks students are not able to perform for themselves.
Key Skills and Competencies
- High school certificate.
- Certificate in ECDE will be an added advantage.
- Teachers Service Commission registration would be an added advantage.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- High level of patience.
