The Project

The University of Nairobi is implementing a United States Agency for International Development (USAID) project (USAID Fahari ya Jamii) to support the implementation of the Kenya Health Partnerships for Quality Services (HIV, FP/RMNCAH, Nutrition, and WASH) in Nairobi and Kajiado Counties. To successfully implement, the project seeks to competitively fill the above position:

The Position

This is a full-time position based in Nairobi and Kajiado County.

Duties and Responsibilities

This position involves strengthening the capacity of county and sub-county health facilities and communities in the design, development, maintenance, and support of electronic systems, including but not limited to KenyaEMR, NDWH, ADT, e-HTS, Ushauri, Nishauri, Lab systems, Psurvey, Lab Manifest and Art Directory. He/She will coordinate and maintain HIS Solutions for routine patient management, quality improvement, for reporting of HIV, FP/RMNCAH, Nutrition, and WASH data.

Specifically, the ICT Lead will perform the following job duties:

  • Provide technical support for eHealth and HIS platforms, including troubleshooting, system testing, application rollout, and first-level assistance. When necessary, offer exceptional post-rollout IT support over the phone, online, or in person.
  • Take the lead in implementing a cost-effective and secure technology to host a data repository and centralized point of care EMR server for instant access to and retrieval of individual-level data.
  • Lead in capacity building for end users including program staff, County and Sub-county staff, and service providers at the facility on EMR and other HIS products in compliance with national protocols and guidelines and provide continuous mentorship.
  • Working with the HMIS and SI Lead to customize queries in SQL to extract data not available in custom reports that meet the required specifications and support in achieving data quality objectives.
  • Collaborating with the HMIS LEAD to develop and implement the strategies for EMR systems transition and scale-up, systems interoperability/integration, and reporting
  • Lead in reviewing, formulating, and implementing the HIS policies of the overseeing HIS/ICT technology upgrades and that system works with the most recent versions.

Job specifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields: Computer Science, Information Technology, Health Informatics, Data Science, or Health Records Management and Informatics.
  • A Master’s degree will be an added advantage
  • Proficiency in software design languages (Java, Python, or C++).
  • At least three (3) years experience in an HIV-related program
  • Demonstrate knowledge in KenyaEMR, Web ADT, and National Data Warehouse.
  • Demonstrate innovative and practical problem-solving skills in a challenging environment

Terms of appointment

This a position whose tenure is one (1) year contract renewable based on performance and by mutual consent. The salary is negotiable depending on the level of education and work experience.
