Organizational Overview
HealthRight Kenya is a health and human rights organization working to build lasting access to health for marginalized communities. Since its founding in 1990 by the late Dr. Jonathan Mann, HealthRight Kenya has worked in over 10 counties with current projects in West Pokot, Narok and Trans Nzoia counties. HealthRight Kenya works closely with marginalized communities and establishes local partnerships to deliver health services, while providing training and equipment to improve health systems. We focus on 4 priority areas: RMNCAH, HIV, Mental Health, and Violence. The four program areas address intersecting health issues that disproportionately affect marginalized communities such as refugees and migrants, LGBTQ+ communities, HIV-affected communities, Survivors of Gender Based Violence, Women, Children and adolescents and Indigenous people and Ethnic Minorities.
Internship Position Overview
Under the overall guidance of the Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL) Officer and Project Managers, the Intern will support the projects, business development and monitoring and evaluation functions at HealthRight Kenya Country Office, ensuring that the Country Program maintains its strategic vision and that its activities result in the achievement of the intended outputs in a cost-effective and timely manner. The Intern will assist the Project Managers and MEL Officer in preparing Monthly/Quarterly/Annual reports on project progress to monitor the project activities on a regular basis, uploading project data/information on the project databases and assisting in collection & analysis of different data in relation to the project activities and business development initiatives. The Intern will report to the MEL Officer and the project managers assigned.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Project Information Management
- Assist in tracking the project’s output and outcome level results on the periodic basis in close coordination with the project’s implementing team as well as with Implementing Partners (IPs).
- Support data collection, verification and compilation from the field as stipulated in the M&E plan.
- Review and compile monitoring reports, project progress reports, evaluation reports, PowerPoint presentations, etc.
- Prepare a variety of documents (e.g. correspondence, agendas, minutes, reports, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information and/or creating documentation in compliance SOPs.
- Update and maintain the project databases where necessary.
- Quality Assurance
- Assist in reviewing field-level assessment reports, baseline studies, and evaluation reports.
- Support the M&E to ensure that reports from partners/consultants are complete and meet the organizations,standards and quality requirements.
- Reporting and Documentation
- Consolidate Country Program quarterly progress reports and submit them to the supervisor.
- Work with the project team to prepare periodic reports of the project by providing M&E related information.
- Work with other project staff to collect and/or assist in collecting success stories, best practice documentation and lesson learned; and update and manage that information in project’s reports.
- Support M&E and Project Managers to ensure that lessons learned from the project implementations are documented properly.
- Carry out other duties and responsibilities related to the Project and M&E as assigned by the supervisor (s).
- Business Development
- Support in business development initiatives as assigned.
Qualifications
- University Degree in relevant social sciences or public health fields with at least sound knowledge in designing, implementing project and M&E related tasks.
- Experience in project implementation and monitoring and evaluation is desirable.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Suite products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
- Working knowledge of qualitative and quantitative analysis tools is desirable.

- Good planning skills to coordinate and organize workload while remaining aware of changing priorities and competing deadlines.
- Must be a strong team player who establishes, builds, and maintains effective working relationships with staff and project participants to facilitate the provision of support.
- Must have the ability to work independently and with a team.
- Must be organized and detail oriented.
- Quality verbal communication skills (small and large group settings) and written communication (email)
- Must have a strong desire to learn.
Key Performance Indicators
- Quality of contribution made in completing projects.
- Quality, timeliness, and adequacy of support provided to Project, Business Development & MEL initiatives.
- Turnaround time in responding to assigned tasks and responsibilities.
- Number of complaints arising from handling assigned tasks and responsibilities.
- Soundness of judgment and initiative in resolving difficulties arising from assigned tasks and responsibilities.
