Roles and responsibilities
Achieving Zamara’s ambitious strategic priorities will be complex and challenging. Its continued success will be dependent on building and retaining a world-class team. The Network Administrator will work with the IT operations and Software development team to maintain and administer our computer networks.
In more detail, the areas of responsibility include:
- Design and implement new network solutions and/or improve the efficiency of current networks. Evaluate network performance issues, including availability, throughput, and latency, and then define and implement appropriate network policies and procedures.
- Install, configure, and support network equipment including routers, proxy servers, switches, WAN accelerators, DNS, and Dynamic host configuration protocol.
- Maintain and administer computer networks and related computing environments including systems software, applications software, hardware, and configurations.
- Perform disaster recovery operations and data backups when required.
- Protect data, software, and hardware by coordinating, planning, and implementing network security measures.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve hardware, software and other network and system problems.
- Create firewalls and update virus protection software and data security systems to keep data and communications protected.
- Monitor computer systems to improve network performance for all systems.
- Maintain current knowledge and understanding of security and networking best practices to offer the best solutions and protection to company systems.
- Replace faulty network hardware components when required.
- Upgrade network operating systems, applications and other system components as needed based on vendor recommendations and testing.
- Work with department managers to determine future networking needs and plan for changes.
- Maintain the integrity of the enterprise and cloud network through server deployment and the establishment of security and regulatory compliance based on established policies and procedures.
- Provide administrative services for servers, desktop computers, printers, routers, switches, firewalls, telephones, PDAs, smartphones, application deployment and security updates.
- Provide on-call and weekend support when needed.
Experience and personal qualities
- 5 years of related industry experience as a network engineer.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or business management.
- Detailed knowledge of WAN and LAN networking systems and software.
- Vendor-specific certifications, including Huawei Certified ICT professional / Expert and Palo Alto NSA.
- Good understanding of software engineering principles.
- Demonstratable knowledge of best practices concerning the management, control, and monitoring of enterprise infrastructure.
- The ability to implement, administer and troubleshoot network infrastructure devices, including wireless access points, firewall, routers, switches, and controllers.
- The ability to create accurate network diagrams and documentation for design and planning network communication systems.
- The ability to manage several projects simultaneously from design to implementation. The ability to perform and oversee complex tasks and prioritize multiple tasks based on overall business strategic goals.
- Proficiency in working with all types of operating systems.
- The ability to solve complex problems on the fly with creative, out-of-the box thinking. Ability to work independently and be self-motivated with minimal supervision and assistance.
- Strong presentation, facilitation, and written/verbal communication skills.
