Key Purpose
- The primary role of the Process Artisan-Mechanical is to implement preventive and autonomous maintenance, provide coaching, mentoring and knowledge transfer of machine operation and maintenance to shift-based teams. Ensure that all documents are updated timely and are clear, legible and accurate The role reports to the Shift Team Leader.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintain, repair and optimise plant and associated devices
- Locate plant equipment, spares and relevant documentation and systems.
- Optimise plant, process, equipment and systems.
- Overhaul spare parts as required to minimize breakdowns.
- Perform maintenance.
- Plan and prepare the work order.
- Resolve and Eliminate Problems.
- Monitor completion of maintenance tasks.
Prepare for planned maintainance
- Work orders obtained for all planned activities from maintenance controller.
- All relevant information obtained to conduct activities e.g. Drawings, manufacturers manual etc.
- Spares and tools required are located and obtained.
- Jobs prioritized to maximize product quality and plant availability within set maintenance schedule.
- Permission to stop plant/ process and time required is negotiated with relevant customers.
- Feedback provided timeously to planner/ controller on deviations to schedule and on work to be completed.
Execute planned maintainance activity
- Daily, weekly and shutdown activities executed according to schedule.
- Plant/ process isolated as per relevant procedures.
- Maintenance and repairs carried out as per works order meeting all the quality requirements.
- Plant/ equipment/ process commissioned after job and handed over to customer for approval ensuring hygiene hand back is done and documented.
- Information collated, documented and feedback provided to relevant customers.
Provide 1st line breakdown support
- Failures, problems and deviations investigated and root causes identified, verified and corrective action taken according to procedures.
- Spares and tools obtained using the appropriate systems as per work instruction.
- Breakdowns repaired with the minimum production downtime.
- 2nd line support/specialist called in immediately when it is identified that repair cannot be affected without further support.
- Report on breakdowns and repairs carried out and completed as per work instruction.
- Plant/ equipment/ process commissioned after job and handed over to customer for approval
- Information/ feedback collated, documented and provided to relevant customers.
Provide online support to Operators
- Shift handovers conducted according to standard process.
- All line and equipment specific problems and outstanding work communicated to other shifts.
- Active participation in line’s MDWT meetings.
- Attend maintenance meetings when on day shift.
Maintain health and safety standards
- Statutory planned maintenance activities executed according to schedule.
- All relevant Health and Safety legislation complied with.
- Unsafe conditions and work practices are identified and actioned.
- Relevant safety equipment and protective clothing are utilized.
- Hazardous substances are used, handled and disposed off as per procedures.
- Health and Safety incidents are reported and actioned as per procedures.
- All housekeeping standards are adhered to.
Complete all necessary documentation
- All work orders completed and signed off by maintenance controller.
- All reporting standards adhered to as per work instructions.
- All root course analysis recorded and documented according to required format.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirement
- Degree or Diploma in Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering.
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience in FMCG, bottling or food processing plant.
