About the job
Field Enumerators/Research Assistants
Living Goods currently operates in three countries; Uganda, Kenya, and Burkina Faso, and while our approach has been proven to deliver lasting impact, we look to save even more lives at scale. We have set ourselves the goal of reaching 18 million people in 5 developing countries by 2026. Success in scaling our impact will require us to partner with the government and in some cases other local and international implementers. The technical assistance we aim to deliver to governments and partners is based on the Living Goods approach codified as DESC, through which CHWs are: Digitally enabled, equipped with skills and supplies, Supervised, and Compensated. DESC is designed to improve the performance of CHWs, ensuring they are incentivized and able to deliver high-quality health care in an efficient manner.

Study DescriptionBackground:
The role of community health programs in strengthening the Primary Health Care system cannot be overemphasized. In Kenya community health services are, spearheaded by Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) who offer services to households. However, there are systemic gaps in the provision of community health care services around CHV support (commodities, knowledge, payment, supervision), and performance management including reporting which delays timely decisions and impacts the quality of service provided. Data generated is crucial for decision-making, planning, and monitoring the progress of health services. However, the process of reporting community-level data is largely paper-based, making it inefficient, unreliable, and prone to data quality issues. Gaps in the functionality of reporting, security, and sustainability of the implementation of various data systems led the Ministry of Health to develop guidelines for standardizing system design, development, implementation, capacity building, monitoring, learning and support. As part of this process, Living Goods in partnership with Vihiga County is implementing a phased rollout of its multi-pronged intervention package where CHVs are Digitally enabled, Equipped, Supervised and, Compensated (DESC). The proposed study aims to assess the overall impact of multi-pronged intervention on the performance of CHV and its effect on maternal newborn and child health (MNCH) outcomes.
