Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Fiber Technician to join our team and contribute to the installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic communication systems. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience working with fiber optic cables, connectors, and testing equipment. The Fiber Technician will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our fiber optic infrastructure and delivering high-quality services to our customers.
Responsibilities:
- Installation, splicing, and terminating fiber optic cables in various environments, including residential, commercial, and industrial settings.
- Conducting thorough testing and troubleshooting of fiber optic systems using specialized equipment to identify and resolve signal loss, connectivity issues, and other problems.
- Collaborate with network engineers and other technical teams to integrate fiber optic systems into larger communication networks.
- Perform maintenance tasks such as inspecting, cleaning, and repairing fiber optic cables and connectors to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
- Liaising with the planning Engineers to document all installations, repairs, and maintenance activities accurately, maintaining detailed records and test results.
- Liaising with planning Engineers to assist in the expansion of fiber optic networks by extending cables, adding new connections, and integrating new equipment.
- Adhere to safety guidelines and industry standards while working with fiber optic systems, ensuring a safe working environment for yourself and your team.
- Communicate with customers to understand their needs, explain installation processes, and address any concerns related to fiber optic services.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, technologies, and best practices to continually enhance your skills and knowledge in fiber optics.
Requirements
Bachelors degree or diploma in: Electronics, Telecommunication, ICT, Electrical Engineering or related field (or equivalent practical experience).Relevant Experience:
- College diploma or equivalent; relevant technical certifications or vocational training in fiber optics is preferred.
- Relevant and progressively responsible experience with installing and splicing fiber, and a working knowledge of fiber optic networks
- Experience in troubleshooting and configuring FTTx/GPON networks
- Experience with repairing fiber enclosures, dressing and prepping cables into enclosures, fanning out and preparing bare fiber, terminating connectors, mechanical/fusion splicing, pre/post OTDR testing, and Light Source and Power Meter testing on Multimode and Single Mode fiber
- Knowledge of approved practices, procedures, tools, codes, and materials used in fiber optic cable splicing
- Outside plant fiber optic cable blowing/placement and operating electronic fusion splicing and testing equipment
- Ability to interpret optic fiber diagrams or wiliness to learn.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and industry standards for working with fiber optic systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with customers and collaborate within a technical team.
- Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
- Flexibility to work in varying environments and adapt to changing project demands.
