Role: Disability Field Officer
Reporting line: Project Manager
Koinonia is hiring a Disability Field Officer for the “NICE: Need for Inclusive Children Education” project, which focuses on equitable access to education for street children and those with disabilities. The Field Officer, based at Shalom House (Nairobi), will coordinate activities, report to the Cittadinanza Project Manager, and must have experience in the disability field, adaptability, and strong relationship-building skills.
Duties and Responsibilities include, but not limited
Project Planning:
• Support in the development overall, annual, and quarterly project activity plan, including project activities in collaboration with partners and key stakeholders under the supervision of the Project Manager
Project Implementation & Monitoring
• Collaborate with project beneficiaries, key stakeholders, project team and project partners while ensuring the implementation of the activities and the principles of inclusiveness and accessibility in all the activities conducted
• Make regular visit to project sites to monitor quality of activity implementation
• Support the M&E Officer in data collection, data analysis and preparation of M&E related documents
Reporting
• Produce terms of reference and activity reports for each activity implemented
• Ensure information are easily accessible, available, ready for use
Representation
• Organize and attend meetings with key stakeholders with the aim of presenting Cittadinanza, NICE project and seeking for possible collaborations
• Maintain positive and productive working relations with government authorities, target groups, beneficiaries, partners and key stakeholders
Other
• Conduct regular assessments and data collection in project sites
• Support the project coordinator in administrative tasks, searching for call for proposals and writing new proposals
Minimum requirements and experience
• BA in Education, Special Education, Social Work, Development and Cooperation or other related fields
• Certification in Project Cycle Management or related fields is an asset
• At least 3 years work experience in Disability, Inclusive Education, Social Inclusion fields and previous experiences working with NGOs and DPOs
• Strong knowledge of UNCRPD, ICF, Models of Disability, CBID/CBR, and Kenyan national policies in disability and inclusive education
Competencies
• Skills in data collection and research is an asset
• Understanding of the key dynamics for the inclusion of persons with disabilities
• Knowledge and understanding of Infrastructure Accessibility
• Knowledge and understanding of Universal Design, Reasonable Accommodation and Accessibility principles
• Experience with engaging and mobilizing communities
• Strong computer skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English
• Excellent reporting skills
• Basic administrative skills is an asset
• Positive attitude towards community work
• Knowledge of project cycle management
• Respectful and compliant with organizational rules and procedures
• Knowledge of Braille and/or Sign language is an Asset
Terms of Employment:
• I year Renewable Contract
• Probation period for the first 3 Months
