Main purpose of the job
The Senior Management Accountant will prepare, analyze and report on management accounting information. (S)he will provide and distribute accurate, timely and relevant financial information to stakeholders. In addition, (s)he will improve the organization’s financial management procedures to ensure they are effective, efficient, and compliant with appropriate financial statutory and regulatory requirements.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for General Ledger (GL) and Management reporting. Coordinate weekly meetings, ensuring all tasks are completed in a timely manner.
- Prepare monthly cost center reports and related commentary & presenting results at meetings with budget holders.
- Lead year-end financial audit activities & coordinate external auditors to ensure correct and timely closing and reporting at year-end.
- Assess current finance policies and procedures and make recommendations for improvements.
- Lead transaction processing automation initiatives.
- Perform ad hoc analysis and support with ad-hoc project planning, research and analysis as required.
Responsible for general accounting including but not limited to:
- Reviewing weekly/monthly bank reconciliations and providing support as required.
- Reviewing weekly cashflow forecast for accuracy and completeness.
- Performing the month-end procedures in the accounting software.
- Reviewing month-end tasks performed by junior accountant(s), including cash flow analysis, FX postings, accruals and prepayments, fixed assets etc.
- Supervising and supporting the accountant role (responsible for monthly accruals, bank reconciliations, VAT/WHT/Excise returns).
- Leading the month-end process, including preparation of management accounts, investigating any discrepancies in the accounts, providing commentary and variance analysis.
- Resolving accounting issues and discrepancies as they arise.
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATTIONS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
- Relevant Bachelor’s Degree (Accounting / Finance or Mathematics/Economics/Statistics).
- Certified professional accounting qualification such as CPA(K), ACCA, CIMA.
- Insurance professional qualifications such as Certificate of Proficiency / Certificate in Insurance or Diploma in Insurance (Preferred).
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience with a portion of it being in a supervisory role and experience in preparation of financial reports and budgeting/forecasting.
- Experience with other financial systems.
- Knowledge of IFRS.
