Project Description

The REgenerative Agricultural Practices for Improved Livelihoods and Market System (REALMS) is a four year project funded by the IKEA Foundation and is implemented by SNV. The project seeks to create conditions for the successful adoption of regenerative agricultural practices in Western Kenya and Western Rwanda. The project directly targets 5,000 smallholder farmers in Kenya and 15,000 smallholder farmers indirectly. The focus counties are Bungoma, Kakamega, Kericho, Nakuru, and Uasin Gishu working on Livestock, Horticulture, and Agro-forestry value chains.The project seeks to achieve three outcomes namely: (i)adoption of regenerative agricultural practices by smallholder farmers, leading to improved soil and water quality and improved livelihoods of smallholder farmers; (ii) increased investment, business growth and revenues for local service providers of products and services supporting regenerative agriculture; (iii) improved enabling environment, favourable to market driven regenerative agriculture.

Job DescriptionThe project field coordinator will work within the REALMS team based in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County. The Field coordinator will report to the Agroecology and Biodiversity advisor. He/She will provide agronomy, regenerative agriculture, value chain related guidance to the county field officers to ensure implementation of assigned project activities within the planned timeframes and budget. This position will also entail monitoring, reporting and evaluation activities and a close follow up with assigned project stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the implementation of the field activities in close coordination with the immediate supervisor
  • Oversee and lead the execution of work plans of the county field officers for the implementation of various regenerative agriculture practices in farmer field schools (FFS) within the planned timeframes and budgets
  • Capacity building of FFS to assure sustainability of interventions post project period
  • Facilitate the organization of training sessions and workshops for Master trainers and FFS facilitators
  • Design and establish demonstration farms in counties of operation in collaboration with SMEs in the project
  • Contribute to the development of monthly field workplans
  • Liaise with government officials from various directorates of relevance to the assigned tasks
  • Coordinate and foster collaboration with other stakeholders in the project counties such as private sector, research organizations, civil society organizations among others
  • Contribute to monitoring, reporting and learning within the project counties
  • Lead and oversee the collection of progress data required for the monthly monitoring purposes
  • Facilitate cross learning between counties and document best practices
  • Prepare high quality monthly reports
  • Provide advice to team on how to improve project performance
  • Any other role assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications

  • Degree in a relevant discipline such as Agriculture/Agronomy/Agribusiness/Horticulture
  • Certificate in Monitoring and Evaluation of any related field is desired or demonstrable experience in handling M&E roles
  • Thorough and up to date knowledge on Agroecology/Regenerative Agriculture/Climate Smart Agriculture will be considered an added advantage
  • 5 or more years of experience working in the Western region of Kenya
  • Demonstrated experience in managing field teams and diverse stakeholders
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good organization and planning skills.
