This post is located in UNEP / Ecosystems Division / Climate Change Adaptation Unit in Nairobi.
The intern will be under the direct supervision of the Global Coordinator Adaptation Policy and Partnerships, within the Climate Change and Adaptation Unit, Nature for Climate Branch, Ecosystems Division, UNEP.
The Internship is for 6 months and UNPAID. Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
Responsibilities
The intern will support the Climate Change Adaptation Unit on the following projects and initiatives:
- Research on environmental and climate dimensions of mobility, including analysis and presentation of relevant case studies sourced from the UNEP project portfolios
- Assist in preparation of the UNEP policy preposition on loss and damage, including ways to enhance access to and/or the speed, scope, and scale of availability of support for activities relevant to addressing loss and damage.
- Work with the Global Adaptation Network team to deliver events/sessions and engage with internal and external partners in the process
- Prepare written summaries and/or make oral presentations of his/her research, including briefing notes and reports;
- Support the production of websites, publications, posters, and public information activities
- Other tasks agreed with supervisor.

Education
Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
- Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) in MBA or relevant fields, Project Management or any other Social Sciences related fields.
- Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);
- Have graduated with a university degree.
- Final year master’s degree student in Legal affairs, Environmental Law, International Relations, Environmental Science and/or related field of studies preferred
- Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Work Experience
No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.
Experience supporting policy influencing campaigns, gender advocacy and natural resources management is desirable.
Experience In International Organization And Africa Region Is Required.
Languages
English and French are the official working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the internship, good oral and written English and French is required.
NOTE: ”Fluency” equals a rating of ”fluent” in all four areas (read, write, speak, understand) and ”Knowledge of” equals a rating of ”confident” in two of the four area.
