Position: Assistant Teacher
Reporting To: Head of school
Responsible For: Provide strong teaching and learning aspects by supporting the main teacher in achieving high academic standards for academic achievement, progress and behaviour for each student.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assisting the main teacher in Planning, preparing and delivering lessons to a range of classes that cater for the needs and development of the students according to age, ability and aptitude within their class.
- Putting up displays in the classroom and other appropriate areas.
- Selecting and using a range of different learning resources and equipment.
- Assisting the main teacher in assigning work, correcting and marking work carried out by his/her students.
- Work proactively and effectively in collaboration and partnership with learners, parents, caregivers, other staff, ensuring equality of opportunity for all in the best interests of students.
- Assisting in observing, assessing and recording students’ performance, giving appropriate feedback and maintaining records of pupils’ progress and development and prepare them for examinations.
- Assisting in providing or contributing to oral and written assessments, reports and references relating to individual students or groups of students.
- Assessing, recording and reporting on the development, progress, attainment and behaviour of one’s students
- Participating in school/academic meetings, parent’s evenings and whole school training events.
- Participating in staff, group or other meetings related to the school curriculum or pastoral care arrangements, for the better organization and administration of the school.
- Undertaking pastoral duties such as taking on the role of mentor/class teacher, and supporting pupils on an individual basis through academic or personal difficulties;
- Managing student, behaviour in the classroom and on school premises, and applying appropriate and effective measures in case of misbehaviour.
- Ensuring high standards of professional practice and quality of teaching and learning of the subject/s. Through effective dialogue, participating in reciprocal peer review and observation of class teaching practice by the Head of School concerned.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & QUALITIES REQUIRED
- Diploma/Certificate from a Kenyan institution in Education.
- Must be registered with Teachers Service Commission.
- Demonstrable knowledge of teaching, learning & assessment strategies.
- Knowledge of quality assurance and accountability systems.
- Knowledge and understanding of current trends in teaching and learning practices.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to form effective relationships with all stakeholder groups.
- Ability to think and act strategically; analyse, problem solve and prioritise; lead and manage people; inspire & motivate others.
- Commitment to continuous personal growth.
