PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Headteacher is the lead educator and accounting officer and is responsible for the operational management of the institution. He/she is also responsible for developing and implementing educational plans, policies, programs, and curriculum activities of the institution. The successful candidate for this position will be based in Mombasa, Kenya.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise the interpretation and implementation of the curriculum and ensure teachers prepare schemes of work, lesson plans, and other professional documents.
- Oversee the preparation of lesson plans, lesson notes, timetables, and schemes of work and maintain academic standards in the school to ensure that the syllabus is covered in time for evaluation.
- Coordinate and provide necessary guidance and counseling to the teachers, non-teaching staff, and learners occasionally, ensuring sound norms are instilled and embraced in the school.
- Impart knowledge, skills, and attitudes to the learners by proper handling of the subjects of specialization.
- Evaluate learners on the subjects of specialization and assist where necessary thus, preparing the students for national and other examinations.
- Implement proper measures to ensure discipline is maintained in the school by the teachers, non-teaching staff, and learners, thus creating a conducive learning environment at all times.
- Ensure that the necessary instructional materials are sourced, made readily available, and appropriately utilized by teachers and learners to support the curriculum implementation.
- Be a safe and professional link between the school and other stakeholders i.e. the local community, parents, private sector, and governmental organizations.
- Come up with new workable strategies and programs to ensure improvement in teaching and learning in the institution.
- Ensure teamwork through collaborative planning and teaching to ensure consistency and improvement in curriculum delivery.
- Serve as a role model in the school and maintain learner discipline.
- Organize staff, Board of Management, and parents meetings on a regular basis.
- Serve as the Secretary and advisor to the Board of Management; by regular progress reports to enhance proper decision-making.
- Any other duty as may be assigned by the management.
EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelors/Masters Degree in Primary Education or ECDE from a recognized Institution.
- Minimum of 7 years in a similar role or in a senior teaching position in a primary school set-up.
- Have a valid Teaching Certificate i.e. TSC certification/compliance.
- Excellent knowledge of both CBC and 8.4.4 Curriculum.
- Excellent knowledge of academic management, training needs assessment, and teaching experience.
- Should have a satisfactory rating in the performance appraisal and performance process.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise, mentor and provide professional support to other teachers.
- Good mastery and fluency in both English and Kiswahili.
- Ability to respond to emergencies with promptness and provide proper solutions.
- Should be computer-proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
- Good command of verbal and written communication.
- Ability to multi-task and work diligently in a fast-paced setting.
- Good planning and organizational skills.
- Excellent at maintaining professional interpersonal relations.
- Be able to work well and meet the required standards with minimum supervision.
- Must be good at time management.
- Must be a team player.
- Must be result-oriented.
