Role Brief
The Data Science internship offers a great opportunity for those coming from an academic background to get a career in data science. The candidate will work with customers across multiple sectors; applying the latest research and technology to overcome real life commercial problems using data science techniques.
We’re looking for someone with a BSc/BA, who is enthusiastic to learn more about data science. We’re particularly interested in those who have experience with problem solving and using a range of technical skills throughout their academic life.
During the internship, you’ll get exposure to data science and how we deliver value for our customers. You’ll work as part of our data science team. You’ll get to learn the commercial side of data science through engagement with customers and you’ll apply your technical skills to a variety of business problems.
This position requires a high degree of independence and responsibility. By the end, you should be in a position to start a full-time data science career in the commercial world.
Responsibilities;
Will include but not limited to:
- Identify valuable data sources and automate collection processes
- Undertake pre-processing of structured and unstructured data
- Analyze large amounts of information to discover trends and patterns
- Build predictive models and machine-learning algorithms
- Combine models through ensemble modeling
- Present information using data visualization techniques
- Propose solutions and strategies to business challenges
We’d love it if you have;
- A BSc/BA in a quantitative subject
- Prior experience (in an academic or work setting) in any or some of – statistical/mathematical modelling, data mining, unstructured data analytics
- Programming skills/concepts and the ability to pick up new technology with ease
- Prior experience (in an academic or work setting) in any coding language (e.g. R, Python, Matlab, Java, C, etc.) and/or other statistical tools/languages
- The ability to understand and present findings to a non-technical audience. Prior experience in data visualization and/or deriving insight from a wide variety of data sources is a plus
