The Center for Epidemiological Modelling and Analysis (CEMA) at the University of Nairobi is offering an exceptional opportunity to join our team as a Data Science Intern.
Internship Details:
As a Data Science Intern at CEMA, you will play a pivotal role in supporting our ongoing research and data-driven initiatives. You will work closely with our team of Scientists, Mathematicians, and Epidemiologists, to contribute to developing and implementing innovative modelling techniques to better understand disease dynamics, forecast outbreaks, and evaluate intervention strategies.
Key responsibilities include:
✅ Learn applied use of data analytics and programming skills such as R.
✅ Support acquiring, validating, cleaning, and wrangling health and health-related datasets.
✅ Apply statistical methods and machine learning algorithms to extract insights and patterns from data.
✅ Develop and maintain data visualizations, dashboards, and reports to communicate findings effectively.
✅ Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support research projects and provide data-driven recommendations.
✅ Stay up to date with the latest advancements in data science, epidemiology, and public health.

Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, Veterinary or Medical degree, or other relevant disciplines (preferably acquired in the last 5 years).
• Demonstrated knowledge of data analytics using a programming language (preferably R).
• Evidence of motivation for the field of data science, epidemiology, and public health
Duration: The internship positions are available for a duration of 6 months starting from 1st August, 2023.
