WIEGO creates change by building capacity among informal worker organizations, expanding the knowledge base about the informal economy and influencing local, national and international laws and policies.
The Communications Team
WIEGO’s Communications Team is responsible for providing strategic direction on institutional communications and practical communications support and training to WIEGO programmes and teams, and the wider WIEGO Network. The Communications Team is a group of highly motivated and hardworking, multilingual professionals. We strive to bring respect for each other’s skills and perspectives in our work, and we have fun while doing it!
The Position
We are currently seeking a Digital Communications Officer to take ownership of WIEGO’s social media and email marketing channels, to help position WIEGO’s advocacy efforts in online spaces and to assist with the delivery of reporting and strategic digital activities.
Responsibilities
The Digital Communications Officer will report to the Digital Marketing Manager and have the following responsibilities:
Social media:
- Oversee, plan and deliver content across different social media platforms using scheduling tools (currently Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, with a vision to expand to new platforms in 2023-2024);
- Manage the day-to-day handling of WIEGO’s social media channels, including monitoring and engaging with followers and key audiences;
- Write engaging copy for social media, email and other digital platforms as required, including but not limited to the release of new publications, blogs, projects and campaigns;
- Working with the Digital Marketing Manager and the Digital Content Producer, develop and deliver tailored digital content plans for WIEGO’s social media channels;
- Curate and repurpose digital content across channels, working closely with the Digital Producer;
- Work with the Digital Marketing Manager to run and test paid ad campaigns across social media;
- Engage with WIEGO’s audience(s) and perform social media listening, meaningfully contributing to online discussions around informal work;
Email marketing:
- Work with the Digital Marketing Manager and the Communications Director to develop WIEGO’s email marketing strategy designed to grow WIEGO’s email lists and increase engagement with different subscribers;
- Compile, edit, lay out and schedule WIEGO’s digital newsletter(s) via Mailchimp;
Digital/content strategy:
- Work with the Digital Team to develop a content strategy and assist the Digital Marketing Manager in the upkeep of the content calendar;
- Work with the Digital Team to continue to build a good understanding of WIEGO’s digital audiences;
- Provide advice on emerging trends and identify exciting content opportunities;
Reporting and Capacity Building:
- Contribute to monthly and bi-annual reporting including key metrics and outcomes on growth, engagement and impact of WIEGO social media and email marketing efforts;
- Provide training to the WIEGO Team and WIEGO members (where requested) on best practices in using social media, building your professional network and profile online and other topics as needed.
About You
To be successful for this position you will need to have:
- 3+ years experience in social media management, preferably for social justice, feminist or workers’ organizations;
- Experience working in, or good understanding of, the workers’ and/or women’s rights sector, to be able to contribute meaningfully to online debates on WIEGO’s behalf;
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree level education in Communications, Marketing, International Development and/or Gender desirable;
- Fluent in English and advanced written and spoken Spanish and/or French. Trilingualism (fluency in the three languages) is considered an asset.
- Attention to detail, excellent written communication and copywriting skills;
- Proactive approach to work and good organization skills to be able to manage competing deadlines and requests;
- Experience with social media management tools (e.g. Hootsuite, Sprout Social, Buffer), social media strategy and content development;
- Experience in guiding organizations to develop their email marketing strategies based on best practices and tactics using Mailchimp and/or other email management tools;
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in helping organizations use Facebook Ads Manager and Business Suite to generate engagement and awareness among key audiences;
- Experience with digital analytics and analyzing performance of digital content and campaigns against KPIs;
- Good understanding of current online trends and how to turn technical content into content that is engaging and drives digital action;
- Willingness and ability to travel and attend in-person events.
What we offer
This is a 4 day/week consultancy role until the end of March 2025 with renewal of the contract thereafter on an biennal basis by mutual agreement and subject to satisfactory performance. The position is offered with an initial 3-month trial contract. The position is home-based and successful candidates will need to have their own office and office equipment.
Pay is dependent on experience, location and the role profile as defined by WIEGO’s Remuneration Policy– this will be discussed with the successful candidate.
