Job profile
The High Commission of Barbados is seeking a professional chef/cook with competencies in household management. The candidate will be responsible for all culinary functions at the official residence of the High Commissioner of Barbados, including planning and preparing meals for official and informal events, and daily meals for the residence. In addition, the candidate will share responsibility for the management of the official residence, inclusive of general cleaning and housekeeping duties, and coordinating with contractors for household maintenance and repairs.
Essential qualifications
Certificate or other qualification in Food & Beverage Management, Culinary Arts or a related field from a recognised institution
Excellent command of written and oral English
Ability to pass a comprehensive background and security check
Essential experience
Minimum of five years’ experience as a chef/cook/housekeeper in a restaurant, hotel, diplomatic mission or similar service setting, backed by exceptional professional references
Experience in meal preparation for events of up to 20 guests
Experience in planning menus, shopping lists, and managing dinner parties
Competency in managing a household, including general cleaning and housekeeping duties
Experience in management of kitchen inventory and food storage
Knowledge and application of health and safety and food hygiene best practices
Knowledge of kitchen management and administration
Experience in providing catering services to events
Experience in preparing international cuisines, with due attention to presentation and variety
Highly-desirable experience
Ability to develop menus for events including wine and cocktail pairing
Experience in organising hospitality events for diplomatic missions
Personal attributes
Excellent time management and organisational skills.
Method of assessment
In addition to an interview, the candidate may be required to complete competency assessments, which may include practical meal preparation and practical examination.
Remuneration
This role offers an exceptional compensation package commensurate with experience, inclusive of comprehensive international health insurance for staff and dependents, and 21 days of annual leave.
