Men End FGM Foundation is a global award-winning movement that rallies men and boys to join the quest to end female genital mutilation (FGM), child marriage and other forms of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) subjected to women and girls. We envision a society free from female genital mutilation(FGM), child marriage and other forms of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) that negatively impact women and girls’ sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR).
Men End FGM is seeking a Communications Intern to support external communications with our donors, partners and global audiences. This person will contribute as an active member of the organization, working collaboratively with other staff to advance program and organizational goals.
This position will be based at our head office located in Nairobi, Kenya.
The role requires a team player with a good attitude, a willingness to learn, and the ability to multitask while adapting to changing priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in creating various types of content, including blog articles, social media updates, newsletters and annual reports.
- Assist in managing and monitoring the organization’s social media accounts.
- Assist with drafting monthly/quarterly newsletters and annual reports.
- Assist with documentation of the organization’s activities by capturing engaging photos and videos.
- In coordination with the Communication Officer, ensure teams are upholding visual identity and brand standards.
- Conduct research and help build a comprehensive database of compelling statistics related to our issue areas and regions (data on the prevalence of FGM, child marriage, SGBV etc.)
- Develop behavioural change communication plans and Behavioral Change and Communications performance monitoring plans for the project implementation
- Assess, select and/or recommend appropriate information and materials for behavioural change and communication initiatives verifying accuracy and quality for dissemination
- Assess and recommend potential contacts, networks, resources and tools to support the maximum impact and outreach of BCC initiatives.
Operations/Administrative Support (10%)
- Occasional work to support office operations
- Conduct digital archiving to create an organized, searchable photo/storytelling archive for the organization
- Undertake special assignments as required
Requirements
- Degree/Diploma preferably in Journalism, Mass Communications, Public Relations, Development Communication or any other related field.
- Previous work experience in the communication field, preferably in an NGO environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven article writing, storytelling, social media management, videography, video editing and photography skills.
- Must be results focused, team-oriented, creative, and a self-starter.
- Developed an understanding of the needs of media and public audiences, preferably with an NGO approach.
