Paid internship with NRC East Africa and Yemen Regional Office’s ICT Department

Duration: Six months

Introduction
This document outlines the Terms of Reference (TOR) for an exciting internship opportunity in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our dynamic team and gain valuable hands-on experience in the ever-evolving world of ICT. This internship presents an excellent opportunity for a talented and aspiring individual to apply their theoretical knowledge and enhance their practical skills in a professional environment. Throughout the internship, the successful candidate will have the chance to work on a range of ICT projects, collaborate with experienced professionals, and contribute to the growth and success of our organization. Responsibilities
The intern will be expected to:

Collaborate with the development team to understand project requirements and contribute to the design and development of software applications.
Assist in testing, and debugging code using appropriate programming languages specifically focusing on PHP Laravel framework
Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality, readability, and adherence to coding standards.
Support the team in identifying and resolving software defects and issues through troubleshooting and debugging techniques.
Research and explore emerging technologies, frameworks, and tools to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of software development processes.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate for this internship should possess the following qualifications:

Education

Recently graduated (NOT more than 1 year) from a degree program or training institution in the field of ICT
Skills and Experience

Demonstrated Software engineering and architecture skills in PHP MVC(Laravel) CSS and JS (ES6).
Demonstrated experience with GIT, Collaborating with other developers, and working with other peoples’ code
Linux hosting environment and shell command-line familiarity.
Strong database skills, including designing schemas, optimizing queries and working with MYSQL databases
Experience in variety technologies and ability to quickly adapt to new technologies
Strong debugging skills.
Personal Qualities

Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent time management and organizational skills
Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities and tasks
Not afraid to ask questions, have a point of view and embrace debate
Demonstrated commitment to human rights and humanitarian principles
Responsibilities of NRC

  1. NRC will provide the intern with a conducive working environment, effective supervision and guidance to ensure optimal learning; evident in regular supervisory meetings and a final performance evaluation
  2. NRC will provide the intern with a clear ToR, stipulating specific learning objectives and exact outcomes
  3. NRC will provide adequate induction to programs and the office
  4. NRC will provide the intern with access to working space; necessary equipment; information and other work-related resources
  5. Pay the prescribed stipend to interns in accordance with the guidelines
  6. Issue a letter of completion of internship to interns upon successful completion of the programme.

Responsibilities of the intern

  1. The intern will be expected to adhere to all NRC regulations, policies and procedures
  2. The intern will participate in the orientation programs of the organization in the first three weeks which will include NRC’s Vision & Mission, Core Values, and the Plan of Action.
  3. The intern will demonstrate motivated participation in the learning experience
  4. The intern will carry out his/her roles and responsibilities as specified in the ToR and guided by supervisor
