We seek an experienced and self-motivated news editor with a passion for editing and leadership in a digital ecosystem.
Responsibilities:
- Proof-read, fact check and edit stories.
- Provide leadership in the newsroom.
- Recommend stories and produce headline ideas to attract our target audience.
- Oversee content production.
- Create highly shareable content.
- Co-ordinate journalists, correspondents, social media team and video team.
- Adhere to journalism best practices.
- Assign projects and monitor deadlines
- Adherence to company Editorial Policy, Style Guide and Code of Ethics.
- Work quickly and exercise good judgement.
- Coordinate with designers, photographers, writers, and producers.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or related field.
- At least 5 years experience in a busy newsroom.
- Very good understanding of the news and political landscape in Kenya.
- Have a detailed understanding of how the digital landscape works.
- Strong writing and proofreading skills.
- Experience with content management systems.
- Possess a high command of the English language and spelling.
- Ability to work autonomously and in a team environment under critical deadline pressure.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to give constructive feedback
- Work well with others in a team.
- Understand trends, learn from data, and adapt quickly.
- Enjoy working independently but also collaboratively.
