Role: Compliance Manager
Reporting to: Chief Growth Officer
Purpose of the Job
The purpose of the role is to ensure that a IPSL is operating in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and industry standards. The incumbent will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining effective compliance programs within their organization. Their primary objective is to prevent and detect violations of legal and regulatory requirements, as well as internal policies and procedures.
Job responsibilities:
- Develop and implement compliance policies and procedures that adhere to local and international laws and regulations.
- Monitor compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements, including anti-money laundering, counter-terrorism financing, payment service provider, know-your-customer, and data protection regulations.
- Conduct regular compliance reviews and risk assessments to identify potential areas of non-compliance and develop plans to mitigate those risks.
- Provide training and support to employees on compliance matters.
- Maintain accurate records of compliance activities, including risk assessments, audits, and investigations.
- Respond to inquiries from regulatory authorities and ensure that all required reports and filings are submitted accurately and on time.
- Identify and report any potential suspicious activities or transactions and ensure that appropriate action is taken in accordance with established procedures.
- Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory authorities and external auditors.
- Manage a team of compliance officers and provide guidance and support as needed.
- Develop and drive compliance culture for all departments by ensuring that all teams are updated and comply with new laws and regulations.
- Filing of suspicious activity reports (SARs) as required with the regulators – Financial Reporting Centre (FRC) and Central Bank of Kenya.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, law, or a related field.
- Certified Anti-money laundering specialist certification (ACAMS), Certified Financial Crimes specialist (ACFCS) or equivalent.
- At least five years of experience in a compliance or regulatory role, preferably in the financial services industry.
- Thorough knowledge of local and international regulations, including anti-money laundering, know-your-customer, and data protection regulations.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to identify potential compliance risks and develop effective mitigation strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with employees at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and prioritize tasks effectively.
