Under the guidance of the Secretary General of the Community, the Process Coordinator shall among other important tasks:
- Coordinate administrative support to the Facilitator in consultation with the Special Envoys and the Technical Advisory Team;
- Facilitate the work of the Technical Advisory Team in terms of documentation and logistical support;
- Coordinate resource mobilization and Donor support to the process;
- Provide administrative support to the Military Track liaison office at the Secretariat;
- Prepare briefs for presentation by the Secretary General to the AU and the UN as required;
- Prepare regular briefs to the EAC Council of Ministers on the implementation of the Process;
- Coordinate provision of technical and administrative support to the Joint Secretariat;
- Represent the EAC in the relevant coordination forums as may be determined;
- Follow up on the implementation of recommendations matrix made to enhance complementarity of the Nairobi and Luanda Processes;
- Ensure submission of Financial and Narrative Reports to the funding Partners;
- Ensure coordination of initiatives under the ICGLR and EAC on DRC with the ICGLR secretariat;
- Ensure proper documentation and archiving related to the entire Nairobi process;
- Take initial action on any matters that may require the attention of the EAC Council of Ministers of relevant Sectoral Councils as may be required;
- Perform any other roles as may be assigned by the Secretary General.
Qualifications/special skills
- An advanced university degree (Master’s or Doctorate degree or equivalent) in Public Administration, Political Science, International Relations, Law, Economics, Social Science or a related field is required.
- Alternatively, a first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.
- A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in the political, security and development fields at international or regional level is required;
- Experience working on the Great Lakes region is required;
- Experience working for a regional organization is required;
- Experience in coordination and project management is required;
- Experience in advising senior officials is required;
- Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills and demonstrated ability to build trusted working relationships with stakeholders and external actors is required;
- Experience in designing, coordinating or implementing processes or policies at regional level is desirable;
- Experience in promoting or coordinating state and non-state partnerships is desirable;
- Experience in resource mobilization is desirable.
Languages
- English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
- For the post advertised, fluency in English is required (oral and written).
