The Mount Kenya Ewaso Water Partnership (MKEWP) is seeking technical-leadership in the IWRM and Nature-based livelihood solutions.
MKEWP Accounts Clerk
MKEWP is a public-private partnership of water stakeholders in the Upper Ewaso Ng’iro Basin. Its focus is the Upper Ewaso Basin and includes the counties of Isiolo, Meru, Nyeri, Nyandarua, and Laikipia – approximately 15000 sq km area and more than 30 WRUAs.
MKEWP has been supported by Darwin Initiative to implement a 5-year project titled
‘Increasing ecological and socio-economic resilience of Upper-Ewaso’.
You would be part of a multi-stakeholder organization, and strong water secretariat, based in Nanyuki, Kenya.
Role
Your role will be managing financial transactions, maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with donor requirements.
Responsibilities
- Keep accurate and up-to-date financial records of all project-related transactions, including income, expenses, receipts, and invoices.
- Assist in the preparation and monitoring of the project budget, ensuring compliance with donor guidelines and policies.
- Prepare regular financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual reports, as required by the donor. Ensure accuracy, completeness, and timely submission of financial reports.
- Familiarize yourself with the donor’s financial and reporting requirements and ensure strict adherence to those guidelines throughout the project duration.
- Manage accounts payable by processing invoices, verifying supporting documents, and preparing payment requests. Assist in monitoring accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding payments.
- Conduct regular bank reconciliations to ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions and resolve any discrepancies.
- Maintain and reconcile petty cash funds, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to established procedures.
- Assist in implementing financial control procedures, including internal audits, to ensure compliance with project policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with internal and external auditors during project audits, providing required financial documentation and support.
- Maintain proper filing systems for financial documents, ensuring their security and confidentiality.
- Coordinate with project staff, suppliers, and other stakeholders to gather financial information, resolve discrepancies, and provide financial guidance as needed.
Reporting
The Accounts Clerk reports to the Head of Finance and MKEWP Coordinator
Qualifications
- CPA II or a Degree in Accounting, Finance and Business Administration or any other related field is preferred.
- At least 5 years of relevant work experience in accounting or financial management, preferably in donor-funded projects.
- Familiarity with financial management systems, accounting principles, and donor regulations. Proficiency in using accounting software and spread sheet applications. Knowledge in using QuickBooks-Pro accounting software will be preferred.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills with a high level of accuracy in financial record-keeping and reporting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with project team members, donors, and auditors.
- Valid, clean driver’s license is an added advantage.
- Proficiency in English, Kiswahili.
