Key Responsibilities
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist in identification of refugees in need of social support (food, clothing, transport) by conducting vulnerability assessment, reviewing available assessment, data conduct home visits/ further assessment on key social factors relevant to psychosocial support services in line with national and International standards and guiding principles by UNHCR, IASC, WHO among others and report to the Counselling Psychologist as well as the field assistant
- Assist in the needs and social assessments that inform and identify the gaps and interventions for psychosocial support
- Assist in outreach and community dialogue and any other activities that advocate for psychosocial support activities
- Assist in conducting referrals of vulnerable refugees to partner agencies and follow up with clients to facilitate access to external services.
- Monitor impact of psychosocial support services given out to vulnerable refugees
- Provide basic counselling and/or psycho-education to refugees
- Open files for all clients (soft and hard) and ensure that case management is in line with JRS SOPs and other sector standards
- Assist in conducting awareness and sensitization campaigns in the communities
- Assist in assessing, identifying and analyzing community sensitive intervention geared towards building resilience and self-reliance
Qualification and Competencies
- A degree/ Diploma in community Development, Sociology, counselling or any other related social science courses.
- In-depth understanding of community-based approaches
- At least three (3) years of professional experience in an NGO and/or international organization
- Good knowledge and experience in community development work
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Experience in conducting assessments and reporting
Desirable:
- 1-2 years’ experience in community work preferably with NGOs in Nairobi
- Previous experience with a faith-based NGO is an added advantage
