Purpose of the Position
The Staff Accountant will join a passionate group of change-makers and be a member of WBR’s Global Finance team to provide rich insights into our program expenditures. This role will prepare and maintain financial records to track the organization’s assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities specially for our program expense function.
There will also be opportunities to develop skills involving data modeling to guide decision making. This is an amazing opportunity for a candidate seeking to develop a highly sought-after skill set.
Responsibilities
Supports the Program function of the organization providing visibility to the organization’s accounting process through involvement in monthly general ledger close and generating financial reports for management.
- Performs accounting and other related duties; improving and upholding the accounting process, controls, and procedures.
- Prepare journal entries.
- Perform the month-end close for program activities.
- Maintain detailed and current balance sheet account reconciliations for intercompany accounts.
- Provide training in accordance with established SOPs working closely with Program and Monitoring and Evaluation team members to ensure they code correctly and timely.
- Works closely with the Financial Analyst to code invoices, set up new accounts, reconcile accounts to book adjustments and allocations for various projects.
- Perform analysis on program activities (In country and/or by project)
- Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit.
- Reconciles cash disbursement accounts, payroll, customer accounts, and other financial accounts;
- Verifies and/or completes payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.
- Maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or related field, or equivalent relevant experience required.
- At least 2 years of related experience required.
- Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
- Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written
- Ability to meet multiple, concurrent deadlines.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, and accounting software.
- Ability to travel nationally and internationally as needed up to 5%
