Job Description

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people whose lives and livelihoods have been shattered by hostility and disaster; to survive, recover, and regain control of their future. The IRC has been working in Kenya since 1992, where it implements programs in health, nutrition, governance and rights, Women’s Protection and Empowerment (WPE), Protection, and Economic Recovery and Development (ERD).

The Volunteer Finance Assistant has responsibility for supporting the finance functions for the IRC Kenya office to adhere to IRC policies and procedures as well as donor compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Cash & Bank Payments Processing:

  • Review and process vendor payments on time and make sure all documents are provided.
  • Maintain the Invoice management folder.
  • Processing of travel payments and ensure all the vital documents are provided.
  • Ensuring that authorizations on the payments requests are in line with the approved limits per the delineation chart.
  • Assist the Finance Assistant with month end close out on Bank reconciliations and Advance liquidations.
  • Devise a cash replenishment schedule to minimize weekly bank visits.
  • Ensure licensed receipts are accurately coded and issued upon receipt of monies.
  • Maintaining the receipt book and ensuring that authorized receipts are issued upon receipt of monies.
  • Assist with Banking.

Filing And Digital Filling

  • Maintain an organized and well-documented (all files must be labeled accurately and visibly) and sequential filing system for all cash disbursement vouchers.

Audit Facilitation

  • Retrieving, reviewing and filling back audit documents.

Other

  • To maintain an organized and well-documented bank correspondences file ensuring it’s continuously updated.
  • Work closely with Finance Assistant to ensure effective training.
  • Assist the supervisor with cashbook update and maintenance.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, Business Administration, Commerce or Finance with CPA 1.
