St Andrew’s, Prep School is seeking to appoint a Music Teaching Mentor. Their primary role will in providing the very best academic support in the music classroom, and in the Co-curricular Music Field, through helping with the teaching and learning opportunities for the music classes and ensembles assigned. They will also be expected to be able to lead Sunday Worship on Alternate Weekends.
Key areas of responsibility will be to:-
Boarding
- Promote the welfare of children and to support the School in safeguarding children through relevant policies and procedures
- Maintain good order and discipline among the pupils, safeguarding their health and safety
- Provide support and assistance to House Parents
- Be part of the Boarding House team, involved in decision making on the activities, initiatives, routines and pastoral arrangements.
- Perform pastoral duties in the evening and weekends
Academic
- Provide support and assistance to teachers
- Assist in developing lesson plans based on the School’s schemes of work and the specific needs of each child
- Proficient use of Notation Software such as Sibelius, Finale and or Musescore.
- Collaborate with teachers to monitor the development of each child
- Understand the teacher’s routine when it comes to delivering a lesson plan and running the class in the event that the teacher is absent on a particular day.
- Work with children in the classroom to promote their learning and development
- Provide cover for lessons when required
- Co-Curricular Music and Other Duties
- Generate and update Peripatetic Lesson Timetables, which requires proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office 365 and particularly Microsoft Excel.
- Lead the administration and management of the Peripatetic Music Programme
- Co-lead Vocal and/or Instrumental Ensemble Groups
- The applicant will be expected to contribute strongly to the co-curricular life of the School.

They will have to have a degree in education or related field and/or hold a teaching qualification coupled with being a registered teacher with the Teacher’s Service Commission. Experience of working in a School environment, or in boarding, would be desirable, but not essential. Knowledge & Experience
QUALIFICATIONS
- A good degree
- Recognized teaching qualification e.g. PGCE
- Registered with the Kenyan Teacher’s Commission TSC
- A demonstrable commitment to professional self-improvement
- A good degree in either Education or PGCE in Education
EXPERIENCE
- Experience of teaching
- A proven track record of excellent teaching and classroom management skills
- Experience of teaching in a Prep School Context.
- Experience of teaching English, Mathematics, EYFS & SEND
- Experience of boarding
Skills
- Excellent communication and inter-personal skills
- Ability to use a range of teaching strategies to support the full range of educational needs.
- Evidence of being able to lead , manage and be responsible for initiatives/developments.
- Knowledge of current generic developments in teaching and learning.
