MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Human rights monitoring: Monitor newspapers, online outlets, and social media, as well as reports from partners, daily.
- Basic research tasks: With guidance from the teams, carry out desk research on specific issues and developments and share findings with the teams.
- Database management: Maintain and update logs on human rights violations and abuses, as well as on individuals at risk.
- Administrative support: Assist with tasks such as mailing, filing (electronic and hard copy materials), event management, and maintaining contact databases.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Interest in and knowledge of the economic social, political, and human rights context in East Africa and as relates to the rights of women and LGBTIQ+ individuals.
- Background through study, work, or other experience in a relevant area, such as human rights, law, international relations, gender studies, political science, or social sciences.
- Keen attention to detail.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and to multi-task.
- Strong computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Fluent in written and spoken English and working knowledge of French.
