Music Teacher

The position

The Music Teacher will play a central role in raising the standards of student attainment and achievement in the subject area, monitor, and support student progress to aid in realizing the vision and mission of the network of Academies as articulated by His Highness the Aga Khan. 

Duties & Responsibility

  • To plan curriculum documents in a collaborative manner to reflect the standards and practices of the Academy. 
  • To engage in effective teaching practice that embraces inquiry teaching and learning methods and differentiate activities to meet the needs of all students. 
  • To authentically assess, record and track the progress of all students.  
  • To communicate necessary programme information to all stakeholders.  
  • To resource programme needs effectively and ensure careful maintenance of existing inventory. 
  • To actively participate in the life of the Senior School and the Academy as a whole, in and out of normal school hours.  

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university
  • At least 2 year experience in early years/primary
  • Must have a TSC certificate or an internationally recognized teaching qualification.
  • Prior experience teaching music is required.
  • Previous IB experience is preferred

Digital Design and Computer Studies Teacher

 

The position

The Aga Khan Academy, Mombasa is currently recruiting a Digital Design and Computer Studies Teacher with ability to teach IB mathematics or Science. She/he will be part of a community that develops young people’s talent and potential from Mombasa to be the well-educated, ethical and pluralistic leaders of tomorrow.

The position

Head of Department – Expressive Arts

The position

Head of Department will be responsible of providing leadership and management of the Departmental unit across the school for the MYP, and DP programmes and communicate with the related areas in the Senior School.

Leadership

  • Exercise leadership as an exemplary role model in subject teaching, professionalism, professional development and administration of the department.

Goal setting

  • Develop and implement clear departmental goals consistent with school-wide goals and specific programme and assessment requirements

Pedagogy

  • Encourage the development of sound and shared pedagogy amongst the members of the department.

Professional Development

  • Prepare a Professional development plan for the department.

Appraisal

  • Participate in the appraisal of the members of the department.

Curriculum

  • Take a lead in the curriculum development and improvement for the various programs offered in the Senior School

Assessment

  • Establish an assessment procedure and programme.

Budget

  • Generate an annual budget for the department.

Administration

  • Collaborate with other HODs in developing a strong team of curriculum leaders.

Collaboration

  • Establish clear goals for year level collaboration and for general collaboration in the department, across

The requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree with teaching qualification.
  • At least 5 years of experience teaching MYP or DP Level
  • Registered with Kenya Teachers Service Commission (TSC)
  • Demonstrated ability to run a well-organized departmental meeting
  • Demonstrated interest in developing reflective practice and connections across disciplines
  • Ability to supervise and mentor faculty.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills in relating to parents, students and other teachers
  • Good collegial relationships with other faculty members
  • Teaching experience in Visual Arts or Music will be an advantag
