Quantity Surveyor
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Advising on procurement, financial and contractual management of Construction Projects
- Responsible for preparation of detailed BQs and specifications for construction works
- Prepare project cost and budgetary estimates under the supervision of the Architecture
- Preparation of schedule of materials for construction.
- Assess and monitor construction costs throughout the project life.
- Scrutinize maintenance and material costs to ensure best deals are acquired
- Collecting and maintaining construction cost data while keeping track of all materials.
- Administer relevant parts of construction contracts, including construction phase cost management.
- Read and interpret plans and specifications appropriate to developing cost estimates and monitoring construction expenditures
- Analyze and benchmark construction costs based on historical project costs.
Qualifications, skills & Competencies
- Degree in Quantity Survey or Building Economics or its equivalent and above;
- Have valid registration by the Board of Registration of Architects and Institute of Quantity Surveyors of Kenya (IQSK).
- Have a minimum of seven (7) years of experience in a similar role in a busy environment preferably private entity.
- Have demonstrable professional experience, competence and proven leadership ability.
- Thorough technical understanding of building construction methods
- Demonstrable ability to work within set and strict deadlines
- High level of Integrity and good moral standing.
- Ability to effectively work in a team.
Structural Engineer
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Day to day work site coordination and planning to ensure the works are carried out safely and efficiently
- Managing projects from inception through to completion
- The preparation of reports, specifications, designs and drawings, briefing documents, feasibility studies, and options appraisals
- The consideration of the strength of various materials, e.g. timber, concrete, steel, and brick, to evaluate how their inclusion may necessitate a change in structural design
- Liaison with other designers, including architects, to agree on safe designs and their fit with the aesthetic concept of the construction
- Liaison with construction contractors to ensure that newly erected buildings are structurally sound.
- Producing calculation packs for planning and/or building regulations approval
- Working with subcontractors to ensure the timely preparation, Risk Assessment Method Statements,
- Inspection and Test Plans, Permits, Consents etc for the works and that these are implemented.
- Apply expert knowledge of the forces and their subsequent effect on various structures
- Liaison with the Site Foreman to ensure the adherence to safe methods of work.
Skills, Experience & Competencies
- 10+ years’ experience in the industry and a member of Institute of Engineers in Kenya.
- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering (civil or structural preferred) or construction management field.
- Good problem-solving skills
- Extremely strong communication, presentation, and negotiation skills
- The ability to work effectively and efficiently within a team
- The ability to liaise well with professionals from other disciplines
- Excellent knowledge of relevant software(s)
- A keen interest in the design and structure of buildings
- In depth building construction knowledge
- An analytical and detailed approach to work
- A creative innovator with a technical approach to projects and tasks
- Unquestionable integrity and good moral standing.
- Detailed knowledge and understanding of the principles of Building Information Modelling (BIM)
