About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Accountant who will oversee the full-cycle accounting of BFA Global Kenya (the Kenya subsidiary of BFA Global). In this role, you will also support U.S. and corporate accounting. The position will report to the CFO and work closely with the Senior Accountant based in the U.S.
Job Responsibilities
Accounting:
- Responsible for the full cycle accounting for the Kenya subsidiary, including preparing financial statements and managing the audit.
- Responsibilities include project accounting, revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606, recording expense transactions to correct account and project, preparation of analysis and reconciliation of bank accounts, accounts receivable, accounts payable, accrued expenses, prepaid expenses and other balance sheet accounts, intercompany transfer pricing, and expense analysis.
- Ensure proper documentation, approvals, and accurate general ledger classification.
- Responsible for the monthly close and preparation of account reconciliations, analysis, and financial statements in accordance with closing deadlines.
- Collaborate with Regional Administrators to determine monthly cash needs.
- Responsible for Kenyan tax compliance.
- Review existing policies and processes to ensure efficient processes that streamline workflow and strengthen internal controls.
- Assist with ad hoc reporting, including financial reporting for customers.
Audit:
- Manage the annual Kenyan audit.
Other Responsibilities:
- Responsible for accounts payable and payment processing
- Review travel and expense reports from employees
- Ad hoc requests based on Finance team needs
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, CPA and public accounting experience is preferred.
- Minimum 5-7 years experience in accounting
- Proven experience in full-cycle accounting and finance responsibilities, including managing audits, financial statement preparation and analysis
- Solid understanding of technical accounting concepts and ability to apply principles to safeguard the company’s assets and produce materially accurate financial statements.
- Excellent technology and process improvement skills
- International accounting and multi-currency experience is required
- Experience in Intacct, NetSuite or similar is a plus
- Ability to work independently, managing processes from start to finish
- Attention to detail, deadlines, accuracy and quality
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Confidentiality and integrity
- Experience in using integrated ERP software such as Expensify, online banking and other programs relating to finance.
- Excellent use of Microsoft Office – Excel, Word and PowerPoint; Google Sheets
- Proactive, take charge attitude; ability to troubleshoot routine situations and manage tasks independently.
- Collaborative team player with strong communication skills and a good sense of humor.
Anticipated Start Date: February-March 2023.
Location: This full-time position will be based in Nairobi, Kenya. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.

Competencies for the Senior Consultant position

At this level, the Senior Consultant is expected to direct a project through the entire lifecycle and be accountable for successful project delivery and project outcomes, including client relationship management, overseeing a team across multiple geographies, team performance, and project profitability.
- Goal setting for themselves and others: Goal setting as a competency is more than just saying what a person hopes to accomplish in a specific period. Senior Consultants are expected to lead a multi-disciplinary project team to ensure successful project delivery, assist in overseeing or directly oversee a project team across multiple geographies on the day-to-day tasks of the project, and contribute appropriate mentorship to cultivate upskilling of consultants and/or analysts. Therefore, an employee who scores high in goal setting drives the team’s effectiveness by assisting in small and large goals for themselves and their team. Action plans are developed, and progress is constantly maintained to see if goals are on track. If adjustments are deemed necessary, the goal setter makes adjustments to redirect actions to meet the desired goals for themselves and the team, always maintaining the team focused on achieving the project outcomes.
- Give and receive feedback: This refers to giving and receiving actionable, candid, timely and kind feedback that helps improve one’s or another colleague’s performance. In the workplace, it’s important to know how to provide feedback to others effectively and constructively as a way to learn from one another and enable each other’s growth. It’s also important to listen to feedback others provide to us to make sure we work successfully with one another.
- Communicate clearly and effectively: This refers to being concise and articulate in speech and writing. Employees with good communication skills listen well and seek to understand before reacting. They adapt their communication styles to work well with people from around the world who may not share the same native language and with people at all levels, from colleagues to clients to partners. Managers listen to the perspective the team brings and listen to suggestions.
