Job Objective/Purpose
Provide high quality laboratory diagnostic services in the hospital, as defined by Avenue Healthcare’s policies, protocols, procedures and standards
Key Responsibilities
- Confirm and identify patients correctly and label the collection containers with correct and pertinent patient information, in accordance with Avenue Group policies and procedures.
- Maintains a clean and presentable collection point / phlebotomy area, ensuring that all sample collection instruments and environments are sterile.
- Collect and handle samples carefully, following infection control Standards and lab procedures, including drawing urgent samples immediately for processing, all in accordance with Avenue Group policies and procedures.
- Conduct phlebotomy procedures on blood donors in accordance with Avenue Group policies and procedures.
- Maintain and enforce infection control standards per the hospital manual and observe proper disposal of medical waste
- Ensure patients safety following the 6 International Patient Safety Goals (IPSGs).
- Ensure the unit is financially viable and demonstrate growth by managing costs and ensuring proper pre -authorization and documentation is done.
- Observe and practice high quality of service through effective communication, prompt feedback and escalation of any unresolved issues to the Laboratory Superintendent.
- Ensure that Avenue Healthcare corporate governance policies are adhered to, including preventing, detecting, and reporting any fraud or criminal activities, and Implementing audit recommendations.
- Ensure adequate knowledge of and compliance to all Avenue Healthcare policies, procedures, and systems, especially policies pertaining to the provision of medical services
- Any other duty as assigned by the supervisor
Personal Specifications
- Certificate in Phlebotomy
- At least 2 years’ experience working in a busy environment.
- Customer focus and results oriented
- Strong interpersonal, communication skills .
- Strong team playing abilities
- Highly responsive, ethical and responsible
