Agricultural Officer

Duties and responsibilities 
An officer at this level will be deployed in Sub-County or ATC to coordinate agricultural activities one of the following areas; 

  • Sub county matter specialist
  • Farm Manager or principal at the ATC

Requirement for appointment 
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have a Degree [Bsc] in any of the following fields: 

  • Food Science
  • Home Economics
  • Agriculture
  • Horticulture
  • Agriculture Economics
  • Natural Resource Management
  • Agribusiness

  • Agriculture Education or 
  • Any other relevant and equivalent qualification from a recognized institution

Assistant Agricultural Officer (16 Positions)

Duties and responsibilities 
An officer at this level will be deployed in a ward or ATC to coordinate agricultural activities one of the following areas; 

  • Ward Agricultural officer (WAO)
  • Farm Manager at the ATC

Requirement for appointment 

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have a certificate or a Diploma [DIP.] in any of the following fields: 

  • Food Science
  • Home Economics.
  • Agriculture
  • Horticulture
  • Agriculture Economics
  • Natural Resource Management
  • Agribusiness
  • Agriculture Extension
  • Agriculture Education or 
  • Any other relevant and equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.

Tractor Operators/Drivers – 6 Positions

Duties and responsibilities
An operator of this grade will be deployed to operate or drive a farm tractor at any ward in the county or at AMS 

  • Driving/operating assigned plant/tractors.
  • Cary out routine checks on plants cooling system, oil, electrical and breaking systems
  • Detect and Report any plant defects/malfunction of the tractor/plant assigned.
  • Maintain plants work daily works tickets
  • Ensure security of the assigned plants/Tractors on and off road
  • Ploughing of designated areas
  • Operating heavy earth moving equipment of different rating as authorized
  • Any other duties as assigned by their immediate supervisors

Requirements for appointment

  • A valid driving license with classes A, B, C and D 
  • A valid certificate of secondary education means grade D and above or equivalent qualification from recognized institution 
  • Attended a first AID certificate lasting not less than 1 week at St. john Ambulance or institute of highway and building technology or any other recognized institution
  • At least two years (2) driving/operating experience
  • A valid certificate of good conduct from the Kenya police and
  • Age – Not more 45yrs old

Drivers III – 2 Positions

Duties and responsibilities

  • A driver of this grade will be deployed to drive a departmental at the county or at AMS 
  • Driving assigned vehicles.
  • Cary out routine checks on plants cooling system, oil, electrical and breaking systems
  • Detect and Report any plant defects/malfunction of the vehicle assigned.
  • Maintain plants work daily works tickets
  • Ensure security of the assigned vehicles on and off road

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This is the entry and training grade for this cadre. An officer at this level will work under the guidance of a senior officer. Duties and responsibilities will entail collecting data and information, doing extension work during farm visits and farmer trainings, participating in field days and agricultural shows that disseminate livestock production technologies and carrying out practical demonstrations on livestock production technologies and techniques.

Assistant Livestock Production Officers 111

Duties and Responsibilities
This is the entry and training grade for this cadre. An officer at this level will work under the guidance of a senior officer. Duties and responsibilities will entail carrying out practical demonstration relating to livestock production, accompanying extension teams during farm visits and farmer training, participating in field days and agricultural shows that disseminate livestock production technologies and information, collecting and collating livestock data and information for gross margins, market access and planning, participating in collaborative research activities, collecting livestock inputs and products samples for analysis, and advising farmers on group formation, construction of farm structures and equipments.

Livestock Production Officer (I Post)

Duties and Responsibilities
This is the entry and training grade for this cadre. An officer at this level will work under the guidance of a senior officer. Duties and responsibilities will entail carrying:- preparing livestock technical information; providing technical advice in animal production, livestock marketing, range management, apiculture and ranching; promoting economic livestock farming; participating in organizing extension activities which include field days, agricultural shows, field demonstrations, farmer field schools and farm visits ; participating in collaborative research activities; disseminating livestock production technologies , implementing livestock production programmes/projects and capturing, maintaining and storing livestock data.

Animal Health Assistant II (4 Positions)

Duties and Responsibilities
This entry and training grade for this cadre. An officer at this level will work under the guidance of a more experienced officer. Duties and responsibilities will entail:- carrying out simple treatment of animals; participating in disease search and reporting; demonstrating on milking techniques and external parasite control techniques such as dipping, spraying and dusting; carrying out vaccination; and undertaking closed castration, dehorning, de-worming, disbudding, docking, debeaking and hoof trimming.

Requirement for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:-

  • certificate lasting not less than two (2) years in any of the following disciplines: -Animal Health Environmental Health, Animal Health and Production from a recognized institution:
  • Be registered by the Kenya Veterinary Board; and
  • Certificate in computer applications from a recognized institution

Assistant Animal Health Officer III

Duties and Responsibilities
This will be the entry and training grade for this cadre. An officer at this level will work under the guidance of a more experienced officer. ‘Duties and responsibilities will entail:- participating in animal health field demonstrations and agricultural shows; participating in sample collection and dispatch; inspecting livestock stock routes; and collecting data and writing technical reports; demonstrating and training on milking techniques and external parasite’ control techniques such as dipping, spraying and dusting; carrying out vaccination, closed castration, dehorning, eartagging, branding, deworming, disbudding, docking, debeaking and hoof trimming;carrying out simple treatment of animals; participating in disease search and reporting; keeping records on animal breeding, animal health, milk production,dipping data; and maintaining dairy units.

Requirements for Appointment
For appointment to this grade an officer must:-

  • Have a Diploma in any of the following disciplines.- Animal Health, Animal Health and Production, Environmental Health, Clinical Pathology and Laboratory Diagnosis, Poultry Science, Veterinary Public Health and Meat Technology or Animal Husbandry from a recognized institution;
  • Be registered by the Kenya Veterinary Board;
  • Have a certificate in computer applications from a recognized institution; and
  • Have shown ability and demonstrated merit in work performance and results.

Animal Health Officer

Requirements for Appointment
For appointment to this grade a candidate must:-

  • have Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines:- Animal Health Management; Animal Production, Animal Production and Health Management, Environmental Health Sciences, Livestock Economics or Health Extension from a recognized institution;
  • be registered by the Kenya Veterinary Board; and
  • have a Certificate in computer applications from a recognized institution

Assistant Leather Development Officer III

Duties and Responsibilities:

This is the entry and training grade for this cadre. An Officer at this level will work under the guidance of a more experienced Officer. Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail: developing simple tannery layout plans under the guidance of a senior Officer , demonstrating to traders the proper methods of washing , fleshing, trimming, lacing, suspending and preservation of hides and skins , participating in setting designing and overseeing the construction of suitable hides and skins premises and stores, participating in field days ,barazas and workshops to advise livestock farmers on the proper methods of handling domestic animals for production of quality hides and skins , and demonstrating to skins flayers and traders on appropriate methods of flaying cleaning and storage of hides and skins.

Requirements for Appointment
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

  • Diploma in any of the following fields- Leather Technology, Footwear Technology, Leather Goods Design and Development from a recognized institution.

 OR

  • Diploma in Animal Health or Environmental Resource Management/Science, plus a two years Certificate in Hides and skins Improvement or Leather Technology, and
  • Certificate in Computer application from a recognized Institution.

Fisheries Officers (2 Posts)

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Development and management of Fisheries Sector in Kwale County.
  • Provision of fisheries extension services.
  • Receiving, compilation, analysis of fisheries related statistical data and preparation of reports.
  • Assisting in monitoring, control and surveillance of fisheries resources
  • Conducting of fisheries extension activities-capture fisheries, aquaculture /mariculture development
  • Inspection of fish and fish handling facilities at fish landing sites, markets and farms,
