OVERALL, PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The role will be responsible for providing safe, effective, and quality patient care services for all the patients coming to the facility.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Manages and supports the day-to-day operations of assigned patient care area(s) in the Emergency Departments (ED).
  • Ensure that all equipments are in good working condition, ensure timely calibration and in case of malfunction, report to the maintenance team promptly.
  • Ensures compliance with all appropriate regulatory requirements specific to the unit and enhancing streamlined processes, patience experience and overall nurse performance.
  • The role is also a resource person for decision-making concerning patient care services, emergency response, non-clinical services and ensures that hospital policies and procedures are properly interpreted and applied.
  • Ensures that the highest quality nursing care is provided to patients and their families by leading the improvement of the patient experience ensuring active involvement of patients, family members, significant others in the care planning process.
  • Demonstrates priority setting or triage skills, assessment and timeliness in responding to patient’s needs.
  • Demonstrates deep knowledge in the nursing care, providing appropriate health teaching to the patient and family on various illness including mental illness.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient’s records.
  • Follows the reporting mechanisms/chain of command in the Nursing Department. Ensuring patient care issues are correctly and quickly reported.
  • Comply with all OSH (occupational safety) and infection control policies, standards and procedures and cooperate with management to comply on those requirements.
  • Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures.
  • Notifying OSH Hazards, incidents, Near misses and issues and assistance with the preparation of risk assessments, incident reports.
  • Develops and implements quality process improvement activities, interviews, hires, evaluates, coaches and disciplines staff in collaboration with the head of department.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Working knowledge of interview techniques and applicant screening methods.
  • Deep understanding of Kenyan employment laws and regulations.
  • Familiar with a wide variety of sourcing avenues.
  • Ability to devise sourcing strategies for potential applicants.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing with Higher Diploma Specialty Training in Accidents & Emergency
  • Diploma in Nursing with Higher Diploma in Accident & Trauma Specialty
  • Additional certification in the following courses is an added advantage;
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Minimum three 3 years working experience of working in a busy Accidents & Emergency Unit prior to joining the hospital
  • Registration with Nursing Council of Kenya
  • Minimum one (1) years’ Accidents & Emergencies working experience.
