The National Police Service Commission is established under the Constitution of Kenya 2020 Article 246 as read with Article 234(3) (C) (4).
It is mandated to:-
- Recruit and appoint persons to hold or act in offices in the National Police Service, confirm appointments, and determine promotions and transfers within the National Police Service;
- Observing due process, exercise disciplinary control over and remove persons holding or acting in offices within the National Police Service; and
- Perform any other function prescribed by a national legislation.
The National Police Service Commission in its Strategic Plan 2019/2022 provides for a new structure and positions to enable its deliver on its vision mandate and strategy.

Shortlisted candidates for the positions of Directors, Deputy Directors and Managers would be required to satisfy the requirement of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 including submiting HELB clearance certificate, Tax compliance from KRA, clearance from EACC and Police Clearance Certificate from DCI.
