If you’re stuck for ideas on what to include in your CV, you’re not alone. Most people don’t know where to start when it comes to creating a CV that will get them the job opportunity they need. After all, there are so many things that you need to consider as well as how they will impact the overall appearance of your document.
In this article, we look at 10 things that you should avoid including in your CV.
1. Working diligently/hardworking
2. Responsible.
3. Detail-oriented
4. Results-driven.
5. Self-motivated.
6. Team player.
7. Go-getter.
8.Think outside of the box.
9. Best of the best.
10. Outgoing.
Why? Because you’re telling me you’re hard-working instead of showing me you’re a hard worker.
NOTE:
Your own personal interests should be listed on your resume.
When you’re applying for a job that does not require you to explain or justify your preferences, your interests and hobbies shouldn’t go in your CV. However, if you are applying for a position that needs to explain or justify them, they absolutely should go in. This information should be included on your resume so that the hiring manager can quickly find this information.
And finally, don’t just leave the heading at the top and call it a day! You need to add some substance and detail to those sections as well!
While you don’t need to include every detail in your CV, you also don’t want to leave sections in there that are just a few sentences. You want to ensure that you include enough information about each section so that it’s not just a list of names and dates.
